How to hang metal wall art

Metal wall art can be a fun way to add character to your home. It’s also a great option if you’re looking for something that won’t take up much space but will make a big impact. But if you’re just getting started with hanging art, it can be difficult to figure out where to begin.

In this guide, we’ll show you some helpful tips how to hang metal wall art in your home. We’ll also cover basic safety measures so you can avoid getting injured while working with these beautiful pieces.

1. Finding the perfect spot for your metal wall art

Before you start hanging your piece, you need to figure out where you’ll place it. Do you want to hang it on the wall? Do you want to attach it to a piece of trim, or do you want to attach it to the ceiling with ceiling hooks?

You’ll want to make sure that the center of your artwork is in line with your room’s main focal point. For example, if you have a big window in your living room, you may want to place your artwork in the corner of that window so that it frames the view outside. Or, if you want to create a statement in your dining room, you may choose to hang your artwork in the center of that room’s table.

Once you’ve chosen the perfect spot for your steel art, measure your wall space. You can use the tape measure or a straightedge ruler, but be sure to get the measurement exactly right.

2. Gather Tools to hang metal wall art

To hang the artwork, you don't need any special tools, you’ll only need a pencil, masking tape, plugs, power drill, drywall anchors and screws or nails and a hammer to attach it to your wall. Most of our designs have already pre-drilled holes in the metal wall art signs. This makes it easier to hang your piece straight on the wall. However, if your sign has a design that does not have pre-drilled holes, you can always drill them yourself.

3. Masking tape hack for hanging metal art

Simply attach a piece of masking tape to the wall roughly where your pencil marks will go, then mark the tape instead of the wall.

That way you can drill holes into the wall through the tape and when you remove it, you’ll be left with a tidy hole and no excess pencil marks. Also you will not touch the actual metal wall art while you are drilling, this prevents the metal and thus the coating from being damaged.
